The Jötnar

I've been planning this shoot for some time and finally, even after several Sundays of postponing it in April, we finally got a chance to get it done. I hadn't planned however on doing all the makeup myself, two people both with full cowls, faces and ears done up in basic skin tones for product shots, then turned blue and airbrushed - took about 4 hours I think, which is what I had expected.

The location I'd hoped would work ended up being ridiculously windy that one day, so it was hard to communicate and concentrate on what I was trying to do. We got a couple shots and moved on to a more sheltered, but limited locale amidst some trees.

We then went back to my place and snagged a few more, with the pausing in shooting I lost sense of what I was getting and what I wanted so the overall variety was a little limited, but I'm still pretty happy with how they turned out.

"The Secet Lives of Demons" is finally for sale online!

It's finally up for sale online!
So feel free to check it out and buy copies for every possible person you've ever met and make sure to get extras for any homeless folks you might meet.

For anyone unfamiliar with the whole project, it's a collection of photos of various demons. The demons were created specifically using generic prosthetic makeup (meaning it will fit most everyone) that I sell at www.themonkeyrodeo.com. Some might think the demons aee a little on the undramatic side, but keep in mind what I just said - they were created specifically using makeup designed to fit most everyone, the intention was not to create something only made for one specific model that only a professional makeup artist could use. This stuff was made for everyone who wants to use it

"The Secret Lives of Demons" project is done.

It's finally all over and done with. About 51 photo shoots, 73 Demons and about a year and a half later.

Just ordered the prototype book today. We'll see how it turns out, then by mid-March it'll be going online for sale at blurb.com for $44.95(US). Softcover only, maybe hardcover, I'm not sure just yet.

Overall it was a pretty awesome experience. I intended to have about 100 different demons, but 73 isn't too bad. Also intended for about 100 shoots, that was just utterly unrealistic.

The makeup itself is pretty simple, I'm sure there's some folks who might criticize it for being limited in that aspect, but the point was to use generic makeup that could be sold and used by anyone online - so keeping that mind, it did turn out pretty damned well. The 2nd volume will be much more elaborate than this. Hopefully.

Until then, here's a couple unused photos from the whole project, ones that probably will never see the light of day otherwise.

The Viking Demon

Did yet another shoot for "The Secret Lives of Demons" and the whole project is slowly drawing to a close.

I might've mentioned this before, but the final deadline for shoots is Feb 29th, at least that's the plan. And then hopefully in a couple weeks I'll see a final copy of the book.
